Ferrous Metal Proximity Sensors
Series Differences

All of MagneTech' s Ferrous Metal Proximity Sensors share a common core functionality and feature set. Engineered to measure lateral distance to ferrous targets, these sensors are capable of detecting even small quantities of ferrous material through non-ferrous barriers such as aluminum, water, air, acid, titanium, and more. They provide an analog voltage output proportional to target distance, delivering highly precise and consistent measurements.

Our sensor offerings are organized into five distinct series, each defined by the diameter of its internal magnet. The series number correlates with magnet size—the larger the magnet, the greater the achievable detection gap. Larger series offer increased range and improved sensitivity to smaller ferrous targets at intermediate distances. However, they are also more susceptible to interference from surrounding ferrous materials, making proper series selection critical to performance in specific applications.

Each sensor model includes a specified Ideal Detection Gap and Maximum Detection Gap. The Ideal Detection Gap indicates the distance at which the sensor reliably detects a 1-inch-square ferrous target under controlled conditions. When detecting smaller targets or operating in environments with nearby ferrous interference, the effective sensing range is reduced. The Maximum Detection Gap is determined using a 6-inch-square ferrous plate in a ferrous-free environment, representing optimal operating conditions. This benchmark is also used during final testing and calibration of our digital NPN and PNP models, where the digital output is precisely set to trigger at the target gap. The Digital Trigger is the voltage output at which the phase changes from its "no target" position.
